North Mankato

Welcome to the City of North Mankato. Our City is part of the Greater Mankato area regional center and home to 13,000 generally friendly residents.  We are located just one hour south of Minneapolis/St. Paul, nestled along the bluffs at the bend of the Minnesota River in south-central Minnesota. Close enough to enjoy the metropolitan’s amenities without the big-city traffic and concerns.

While the aforementioned bluffs are renowned for their autumn beauty, North Mankato also features a number of City parks for recreational activities.  Among these is Caswell Park, one of the premier softball complexes in the state. This facility has a substantial pedigree of hosting community, state, regional and national tournaments.  This complex also features our recently completed Miracle Field for special needs athletes. Caswell Park North will begin development this spring of a multi-field soccer complex to further enhance this regional attraction. Additionally, there are a variety of lakes and county/state parks in and around the North Mankato area, as well as access to the regional trail system.

Our residents enjoy excellent health care and educational opportunities. There are a number of medical and alternative medical clinics conveniently located throughout our community and our hospital is affiliated with the Mayo Healthcare System. We have strong public and parochial schools, at both the elementary and higher education levels generating a well-educated workforce. These schools also provide our citizens with additional recreational opportunities ranging from the arts to high school state championship quality sports and Division 1 hockey. Additional athletic and arts opportunities are available to our citizens through an active Community Recreational program and Twin Rivers Center for the Arts.

As part of the regional center, North Mankato is home to a variety of businesses ranging from the family-owned/operated to national and international concerns. These businesses make the Greater Mankato area a retail shopping hub, as well as providing a variety of employment opportunities in the retail, manufacturing, healthcare and agricultural economies. Our City is also very interested in actively encouraging and supporting ongoing economic development for our area.

To that end, the Cities of North Mankato and Mankato have a long history of intentional development through projects like Act 2000 and Envision 2020.  These growth outlines were developed and implemented by involved citizens working cooperatively with their neighbors, businesses, elected officials and City staffs to promote progress while sustaining our safe and peaceful small-town atmosphere.
